About Dadri

The ICD Business in Northern India – A background
Northern India today is one of the fast growing and emerging markets. Over a period of time, now the trade operating in the geography has option of sending their cargoes to ports other than JNPT. To address the logistic imbalance, Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), launched Asia’s largest Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Dadri, the plan of which began in 1997 as an ideal hub point for link with spokes avoiding Delhi. The Rs.313 crore facility has been conceived more as a modern intermodal logistics hub than an ICD.

The Opportunity – Growth Waiting to Happen

In India, perhaps the busiest corridor for rail cargo movement today is between JNPT and the ICDs located in the North with nearly 30% of JNPT’s North bound traffic emanating from here. It has been estimated that containerised traffic in and around Delhi is growing at a CAGR of 20%. Projections also indicate that ICD Dadri will do a good business in the years to come.
ICD Dadri is spread over 110 hectares as compared to ICD Tughlakabad’ area of 42 hectares. Adding to its lure are better facilities and its capability to handle more than one million TEUs. Giving such encouraging signs, concerted efforts are afoot to ensure that a large part of the business is diverted to move on rail routes to gateway ports.

The Impact – A Viable Option, A Real Solution

What CMA CGM Logistics Park has done , is first and foremost provide the trade in North India with the option to consolidate their cargo and route container movements through the ports of Mundra and Pipavav rather than the heavily congested Nhava Sheva Terminal at JNPT. Giving the trade in Northern India greater flexibility while delivering their cargo.

Translating into the fact that CMA CGM Logistics Park is today well positioned to make the most of a host of opportunities.
